Event details

Katie Brown is Senior Lecturer in Latin American Studies at the University of Exeter. She specializes in contemporary Latin American culture, with a particular focus on Venezuela. Her main research interests are the circulation of people (travel, migration and exile) and of texts (publishing, translation and reception). She also researches and teaches about cultural responses to politics in the 20th and 21st century. She is the author of Writing and the Revolution: Venezuelan Metafiction (2004-2012) (Liverpool University Press, 2019) and co-editor of Crude Words: Contemporary Writing from Venezuela (Ragpicker Press, 2016) and Escribir afuera: Cuentos de intemperies y querencias (Kálathos, 2021). Her translation of Desde la salvajada (From Savagery) by Alejandra Banca will be published by Selkies House in 2024.

Peter Sloane is Senior Lecturer and Programme Director for English at the University of Buckingham, UK. He is the author of David Foster Wallace and the Body (Routledge 2019), Kazuo Ishiguro’s Gestural Poetics (Bloomsbury 2021), and the forthcoming From Rupture to Refuge: Tracing the Refugee in 21st Century Fiction and Life Writing (LUP 2025). He is the editor of ReFocus: The Films of Claire Denis (EUP 2023), and the co- editor with Kristian Shaw of Kazuo Ishiguro: 21st Century Perspectives (MUP 2023).
